Palak kay Kofty

Ingredients [For Koftay]

  • Palak (Spinach) – ½ kg [discard stems]
  • Piyaz (Onion) – 1 small
  • Sabz mirchen (Green chillies) – 1-2 [chopped]
  • Pissi laal mirchen (Red chilli powder) – ¾ tsp
  • Namak (Salt) – ½ tsp
  • Garm masala powder (Whole spices powder) – ⅛ tsp
  • Besan (Gram flour) – 1 cup


Step 1: Add Palak (Spinach), Piyaz (Onion), Sabz mirchen (Green chillies), Pissi laal mirchen (Red chilli), Namak (Salt), Garm masala (Whole spices) powder, Besan (Gram flour) and mix well. Make the shape of kofta and fry at low flame.

Additional Tip

If you want to make the mixture thicker, you can do one of the following steps.

1: Add 1½ cups of besan.

2: After washing the Palak (Spinach), dry it properly and then add ¾ cup of Besan (Gram flour). After that, add other ingredients and mix with 2-5 tbs of water to make the dough.

Ingredients [For Gravy]

  • Piyaz (Onion) – 1 large
  • Tamater (Tomatoes) – 2 large
  • Malai – 2-3 tbs
  • Pissi laal mirchen (Red chilli powder) – ¾ tsp
  • Namak (Salt) – ½ tsp [to taste]
  • Haldi (Turmeric powder) – ¼ tsp
  • Zeera (Cumin seeds) – ½ tsp
  • Darchini (Cinnamon stick) – 1-inch piece
  • Garm masala (Whole spices) powder – ¼ tsp
  • Sabz mirchen (Green chillies) – 2 [cut in halves]
  • Sabz dhaniya (Green coriander) – 2-3 tbs
  • Oil – ¾cup


Step 1: Fry Piyaz (Onion) until they become golden. Then add the fried Piyaz (Onion), Tamater (Tomatoes), and Malai in a blender and make a paste.

Step 2: Add Zeera (Cumin seeds) and Darchini (Cinnamon stick) in the same oil and mix for 30 seconds. Add Tamater paste, Pissi laal mirchen (Red chilli powder), Namak (Salt), Haldi (Turmeric powder), Dhaniya (Coriander) powder, Lehsan (Garlic) paste, Adrak (Ginger) paste, and mix till oil separates.

Step 3: Add 1¼ cup of water [or according to your requirements], cover, and cook on medium to low flame for 5-8 minutes.

Step 4: Uncover and cook at medium flame for 3-5 minutes. Then add Koftay, Garm masala (Whole spices) powder, Sabz mirchen (Green chillies), Sabz dhaniya (Green coriander), mix, and cook at high flame for 3 minutes.
